| #1 | Hello all!
We've just finished our first night with the UNICEF pack and wow! what a night! When the guides selected this project I was exceptionally proud of them, as well as worried about how I would be able to facilitate it.
The UNICEF pack and supporting website have been excellent! I am working with the Younger Guide pack and I found it a good mix of interactive games and activites plus the more serious dicussion items. I was exhausted by the end of the night but the girls were buzzing with questions and stories to tell.
I do have a few suggestions about tools that could be added to the pack. An FAQ sheet with all the inportant definations and facts in one place would be great. I found that I was flipping through the pack to find information to answer the girls questions.
I would also suggest that during your evening you should explain who UNICEF is and what they do. My guides had heard of UNICEF but none of them knew what they did or where they worked.
Don't be afraid leaders! This is a great project and I'm so glad we've taken it on! |

It's good to hear that this is working well with your unit. It can be quite nerve wracking going into a "heavy" topic like this but it is also so rewarding too. I have done some of the odler pack with my Rangers and it went really well. |

| #3 | hi have only just found this forum. I have just completed this project with my Brownies and they learnt so much whilst doing this at the beginning, many of them had never heard of HIV or AIDS, and with those who had heard there were a lot of misconceptions to clear up - such as Africa is the only place in the World to have the virus The UNICEF pack is fantastic with some excellent ideas for activities. by the end my girls were quite stirred up and we wrote together to our MP about the injustice in the World. We actually received a letter back from the Dept of Health. The girls planned and carried out a sponsored mini olympics to raise money and they managed to buy everything they had wanted to including support for 5 children, medicine for 5 children, a testing kit for 50 mums and an art in a box pack this is a tricky subject but if we all spoke openly about HIV and Aids we can empower the next generation |

| #4 | HI!!
I have only recently found out about the Girl guiding UK Changing the World project and the reason i chose UNICEF is because it helps other girls learn about AIDS and HIV!
Since there is different sections and the first one is spreading the word i have decided to start spreading the word by starting with the Guides and my friends.
And raising the money..... i haven't really thought about it yet i will probably do a sponsored walk or a sponsored cycle i might even sell baked goods. But it is most likely i will do a sponsored walk because i raised £111.50 for my local guides. So fingers crossed that i can do it all again but this time raise more money for UNICEF.
wish me luck i am going to need it! |
