| #3 | We have just chosen to support Railway Children. We'd not heard of it either but the girls are really looking forward to starting the project after Christmas. We will introduce the charity to our friends and family at our Christmas fair at the end of Nov. |

My Guides have been doing the Railway children over the last few weeks. They really seem to be enjoying it. When we did the Dream Bubble some came up with the usual silly things but most of them took it very seriously and even gave us a few surprises. __________________ R. McKinlay |

| #6 | We are really pleased that the Power of Dreams project has been so well received. It would be great to hear about your activities and get some feedback on what has worked well and those that have not worked so well. Anything that we can use in our online newsletter including some photos would be greatly appreciated. Please contact us if we can help in any way. ian.watson@railwaychildren.org.uk |

| #7 | We at 1st Kirkliston guides have just started on the Railway children project and activities. The girls dreams and aspirations were a revelation, most quite serious regarding their future. Helen McPhee 1st Kirkliston Guide Unit Leader |

We have just finished the Power of Dreams project and I would like to congratulate Railway Children for providing an excellent resource. It was great as all the resources we nneded were provided in a photocopiable format. We basically used the sessions as they were in the booklet although we did expand one section to make it last the whole half term! We had great fun making the shelters. The discussions following the stories were the best bits and the BRownies came up with points I hadn''t even thought about! to raise money we held a papmer night. The Brownies all borought their mum, grandmas, aunties, sisters and they wroked togeter to make lip gloss, make bath bombs ( very messy activity but great fun!) and smoothies. We had a chaocolate fountain (v popular!). We also had mini facials, mini manicures, hand massages, face painting. Great fun was has by all and we raised £75 for the charity. Weare also hoping to have a cake sale after church parade. It's a great project and well recieved by the girls. __________________ Sandra McCann |

| #9 | We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the resrouce! It sound like you have been having fun while championing an important issue for Railways Children.
I am sure that you have already seen the poster competion in the resource where girls can win the chance see thier design on the London Underground. The posters will raise awareness of the missing persons helpline for young people. You might consider taking part in this as a short follow up to your project. Please see page 36 of the activity pack. |

| #10 | Hi, just thought I would fill you in on our Power of Dreams project. We all enjoyed the project. The guides made dream catchers, door hangers, made a dream bubble book. We held a fund raising evening of a Talent/Night time fashion show for parents and raised £80. One of our guiders went on a challenge hike marathon and was sponsered at work and raised £100, so we are sending £180 to the Railway Children. We made indoor shelters and worked out what our thoughts were on the stories of the young girls in the pack. We also wrote to our MP. The pack was brilliant and easy to use. We throughly enjoyed the project and hopefully have made the guides think hard about running away. Thank you Jane Woodstock 1st Sawston Guides |

The 1st Carshalton Guide Company have been taking part in The Power of Dreams project for The Railway Children. The girls chose this project themselves - it really seemed to capture their interest and imagination. We read some of the stories to them and I think they were quite surprised and intrigued that children have reason to run away/ leave home. We talked a lot about the things we dream about - and we thought and talked about whether our dreams were actually any different to those of someone who has run away from home. The answer was "no" our dreams are actually pretty much the same, except the girls felt that their dreams were far more materialistic than those of a runaway. It was certainly quite a talking point. We made shelters and discussed what it would be like to have to spend the night in a homemade shelter - most of the girls were quite horrified at the thought. They said that camping in a tent was as far as they would go! We also linked in the Life on the Streets activity and discussed the most important items we would need and the least important items if they did find themselves on the street. This caused quite a lot of discussion and certainly brought home the fact that life on the streets is not at all glamorous. We also made dreamcatchers and told the girls the story/history about dreamcatchers, which really caught their attention. Finally, we did the activity where we read out the statements about runaways and where the girls had to choose "True, False, Don't Know or Sometimes". It was really interesting to get the girls views - they were all quite open about what they thought. The biggest topic of conversation was whether you should always talk your problems through with your parents - lots of differing views. In the end, we all firmly agreed that if you couldn't talk your problems through with your parents, then there was always an adult you knew who you could talk to. This project has been interesting and inspiring. Unfortunately, we have only managed to raise £70 so far for The Railway Children - but I know it will be a charity the girls will hold dear in the future - and we will certainly be raising money for them in future raffles/fundraising events.
